The fifth and final Code Geass: Akito the Exiled episode opened in 36 theaters in Japan this past weekend. It sold 36,161 tickets for 43,099,100 yen (about US$375,000) to rank #9 on the weekend's box office chart.

The Code Geass: Akito the Exiled series is a spinoff of the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television anime series. Set in between the two seasons of the original series during the Britannian invasion of Europe, Akito the Exiled centers around Akito Hyuga, a member of the 'W-0' unit, a suicide outfit of exiled Japanese (Elevens) sent to the battlefield to perform dangerous missions against Britannia, with only a 5% survival rate.

The live-action film of Ayumi Ishii's Nobunaga Concerto historical manga dropped to #2 in its third weekend, after The Martian opened on top. The film is still playing on 324 screens. Star Wars: The Force Awakens dropped to #4 in its eighth weekend. The film has earned over 10 billion yen (about US$82 million) as of Sunday, January 31.

Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan!, the second film in the Yo-kai Watchfranchise, Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan!, rose from #7 to #6 in its eighth weekend in 358 theaters

The Shuriken Sentai Ninninger vs. Ressha Sentai ToQGer: The Movie - Ninja in Wonderland film combining the 38th and 39th Super Sentai series fell from #6 to #7 in its third weekend on 318 screens.

The live-action Orange film dropped from #10 off the chart, while the third new Initial D film opened at #12.

5th & final episode to open in 36 theaters in Japan on February 6

The official website of the Code Geass: Akito the Exiled anime project began streaming a trailer for 'Itoshiki Mono-tachi e' (To Beloved Ones), the fifth and final episode of the series on Friday. The trailer previews the episode's story.

The episode will open in Japan in 36 theaters in Japan on February 6, after being delayed from its original fall 2015 release window.

The website also unveiled a new visual for the episode. The tagline reads, 'To live in this world, I'll keep on fighting.'

Animate will begin offering tickets with limited-edition acrylic keychains in December 24. A pop-up shop will open at Tokyo's Shinjuku Marui Annex building from February 5 to February 22. The anime is holding a collaboration with dishes, drinks, and limited goods at the new Kobe Anime Street district from February 4 to March 28.

The series was slated for four episodes, but Sunrise producer Yoshitaka Kawaguchi announced at the third episode's premiere in May that the anime will be expanded to five episodes. The fourth episode, 'Nikushimi no Kioku Kara' (From the Memories of Hatred), was rewritten and redubbed to incorporate the fifth episode.

The fourth episode premiered in Japan on July 10, and the episode's DVD and Blu-ray version was released on October 28. The fourth-episode's Blu-ray release topped the Oricon animation and overall Blu-ray charts in its first week.

The original television anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion premiered in Japan in 2006, while Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 premiered in 2008. The Adult Swim network aired bothseries in North America in 2008. Bandai Entertainment released both seasons on home video in North America before it stopped offering new DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and manga releases in 2012. Funimation announced its license of the series in 2013.
